Education & Community Programs
At Faxton St. Luke's, community outreach and education are an on-going commitment. Below are some of our larger initiatives. Also, please check our calendar for more information about specific events.
Keith A. Fenstemacher Center for Continuous Learning
The mission of our Center for Continuous Learning is to carry on the legacy of a strong commitment and passion for learning of our former Chief Executive Officer, Keith A. Fenstemacher, by promoting an environment of continuous, life-long learning among our patients, their families, employees, physicians, volunteers and the public in order to create a healthier, more vibrant organization and community.
We are becoming a learning center of excellence, well known in our community for exceptional learning opportunities in a supportive environment with quality instruction that promotes Relationship Based Care and meets the personal and professional needs of participants, while supporting wellness, prevention, and treatment and the most current - high quality - best practices within healthcare.
Campaign for Quality
If one thing is constant in the healthcare industry it is change. On a daily basis, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare experiences changes in equipment, medications, care methods and techniques, prevention of disease and reimbursement. To better educate our employees, medical staff and the community about these changes, the hospital offers a series of educational programs with both local and national speakers presenting on current trends in healthcare, quality improvement topics and patient safety initiatives.
Our community’s health is a shared responsibility, shared by patients, their families, providers, our hospital staff and caregivers. Understanding how we can all work together for the benefit of a healthy community, learning more about what other organizations and communities are doing to improve patient care and safety, as well as promoting community health is at the heart of the Campaign for Quality initiative.
Our annual conference is a true community event open to all employees and medical staff from our three area hospitals, as well as the general public.

CNY Diabetes Education Program
The Central New York Diabetes Education Program offers a comprehensive program in diabetes self-management training. CNY Diabetes is a cooperative effort of Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, and is formally recognized by the American Diabetes Association. The program staff consists of certified diabetes nurse educators and registered dietitians from FSLH.
Relationship-Based Care Training Program
Relationship-Based Care (RBC) was adopted by FSLH following the consolidation of Faxton Hospital and St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital in the fall of 2005. FSLH partnered with Creative Health Care Management to build and sustain this model of patient care which has helped FSLH become a healthcare organization that provides a positive, caring and healing experience for you and your family. It has been instrumental in guiding our employees and creating exceptional teamwork.
Our one and half day program gives you information that you can take back and get started. Day one includes a description of the Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare’s RBC journey, tools to help you get started, and lessons learned along the way. On day two, you will have the opportunity to meet members from our 60 Unit Practice Councils and sit in on our monthly Status Check In Meeting.
